Why this exists

Whether it’s a store’s product page or a creator platform like Gumroad or ArtStation, putting a GIF on it tends to hit the same wall: every site has a different size limit, many don’t publish theirs, and when you finally squeeze a GIF under it, it looks mushy. GIFsize was built to take that guesswork away. Enter the limit, and it searches for the sharpest width and frame rate that still fit — and tells you the size before you export.

The target is preset to 5MB here. If the upload screen says something different, just drag the target slider to that number. Limits we could confirm from official help pages are collected, with sources, on the size limits page.

Aspect ratios that suit product pages

RatioWhere it fitsWhy
1:1Thumbnails, galleries, store gridsMost product grids use square tiles, so nothing gets cut off
4:5Product descriptions read on phonesFills more of a vertical screen as people scroll
16:9How-to demos, screen recordings, portfolio coversKeeps wide motion and software UI intact

The ratio buttons are under the preview, next to “Crop”. Pick one, then drag the box over the product. Cropping away empty background is the cheapest way to get more detail out of the same file size.

Names, prices and logos

Under Decorate → Layers you can add the product name or a “Launch week −20%” line, drop in your logo or signature as a transparent PNG, or add an animated GIF sticker. Each layer can show for only part of the loop — a price that appears in the last second, for example — and every layer is included in the size estimate.
